The claymore became well known through the writings of Sir Walter Scott in the 19th century and became, along with the kilt, very strongly associated with the rise in Scottish romanticism.
This, very characteristic, example has the name AFORBES (with the F the wrong way round) on one side of the blade, probably the name of a former owner.referenceterm-106256adlib-term-1062561bd8ad44-09c2-3c55-825a-635e463bb56b16th Century, Early#referenceterm-40136adlib-term-4013628e1cd6e-7c25-339f-8cd2-2aaae536a0c5steelLengthcm135.4referencemedia-13576adlib-media-135762c4ab43e-392c-396c-b448-533f230153cfjpegaa/aa19/M_2_1949.jpg1heightpixels760widthpixels40016162467145641imagejpegaa/aa19/M_2_1949.jpg1heightpixels760widthpixels40016162467145641imagejpegaa/aa19/M_2_1949.jpg1heightpixels760widthpixels40016162467145641imagejpegaa/aa19/preview_M_2_1949.jpg1heightpixels475widthpixels25016162467145641image0media
