At the top of wreath arms of Thurston of Challock quartering Woodward of Throwleigh and within it a landscape - an estuary with a ship in full sail, upon the far bank a bell tower and a shorter one with a spire which flies a flag, a cross, both completely overshadowed by an exotic tree which grows upon the near bank, to the left a man sits fishing, above a sun in splendour. A 12" wide border of detached motives, closely arranged - birds, bridges, exotic flowers, flowering trees, insects, pagodas, pavilions, etc. Ground between wreath and border dotted with similar motifs, all in Chinoiserie style. At the bottom a rectangle 18.75" x 17.5" has been rather untidily removed from either side to make it fit a four poster bed.
