The style of painting is close to dishes decorated with a couple strolling in  landscape with similar tall sponged trees. These have been associated with the name of a presumed decorator, John Bowen, because a dish (destroyed in the fire at the Alexandra Palace in 1873), decorated with a lady and gentleman in a landscape with a tree and cottage, was inscribed \u2018ye 1st: Sept. 1761 Bowen.fecit\u2019.\u2019 It is not certain however, that this Bowen was the John Bowen apprenticed at the Lime Kiln lane pottery in 1734, and who, when that closed in 1746, may have moved to the Temple Back Pottery or Redcliff Back
