The body is decorated in coloured enamels on a turquoise ground with phoenixes flying among scrolling peonies. It encloses a large bronze basin that is designed to collect the ash. The domed cover is almost the same size as the body and has several layers of designs and a round finial. The finial is decorated with red, blue, green and pinks bats flying among coloured clouds. The first layer of the cover is decorated with geometric patterns, the second layer with geometric red bats among clouds, and the third layer is pierced and decorated with geometric shou (longevity) characters. This incense burner has a large mouth rim, but no handles.
