The collection of over 600 fans ranges in date from the 18th to the 20th centuries and in type from bejewelled and hand-painted court and wedding fans, to printed mass-produced advertising fans, aide-memoire fans, mourning fans and children’s fans. This fan still has its original box with the manufacturer’s label: ‘J. Duvelleroy, 121 New Bond Street, London W1.’ Duvelleroy was a Paris-based fan manufactory, who owned a London shop at this address from 1924 to 1956, so this fan must have been made after 1924. Between the wars, Duvelleroy specialised in couture feather fans.
