object type: Valentine card of cream laid paper, roughly 8vo size with a lithograph of black ink (uncoloured). A central medallion contains a scene in a landscape of a bride and bridegroom standing beside a plinth surmounted by two flaming hearts, a pair of doves on the ground to the right. A printed verse above and below: "I dream'd my heart consuming lay / On Cupid's burning shrine …". The medallion is framed by cloud and a pair of doves hold a bow in their beaks at upper centre. A pair of crossed flaming torches are tied with a bow at lower centre. The inside pages are blank. One of a series of cards on cream laid paper with uncoloured lithographs, apparently all later reprints, the designs possibly taken from collections of love poetry published in the early nineteenth century by James Kendrew of York, and mounted in album P.14348-R.
