object type: A late-16th century Italian bronze plaquette depicting Christ crowning the Virgin Mary. Both figures occupy the centre of the panel, supported by winged angels or putti. Several more angels circulate in the clouds above and below. holding wreaths and rosaries. The prominence of rosaries suggests a connection to the Festival of the Rosary instituted by Pope Gregory XIII in 1573, and/or to the Chapel of the Rosary at SS. Giovanni e Paolo (Venice), 1582.
