The 'book' opens to reveal the conclusion of a message written on blue paper and originally perhaps also a circular image, which has been torn from the paper. A circular impression is visible on the backing paper below the torn, blue paper. A hand-written inscription in red ink at upper centre: "Dear - - - - - - - / I swear to love you dearly / and am ready - (inscription continued inside the decorated book) to kiss / the Book at any / time." At lower centre is a further hand-written inscription in blue ink: "Thus may we be / A couple of ducks".
