Lace-paper with an ornate gilded lace-paper flap at the centre. At the centre of the flap is an oval-shaped, chromolithographed scrap of violets and snowdrops and the German greeting: \"Alles Gute zum neuen jahre\" (\"Happy New Year\") printed around the lower edge. Underneath the flap is a printed verse within a gilded, lace-paper roundel: \"Though wide apart \/ our paths may be \/ Still time shall never \/ alter me \/ nor distance change beget \/ through all the unknown \/ future's ways \/ the friendship of our \/ early days \/ I never shall \/ forget.\" The inside of the card is blank.
