DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: Comic valentine (dandy of the lower-classes). A hand-coloured woodcut on very thin wove paper, which is folded in half to create an inside page (blank). A figure with an over-sized head drinks from a ladle at a public drinking fountain. A printed verse below: "So my poor fellow, is it thus you dine - A penny BUSTER and a glass of water - / That you on a Sunday in a four-and-nine / May strut - to every one a theme for laughter.". A 'penny buster' was a small loaf or bun costing one penny and a 'four-and-nine' was a cheap type of hat. From a series of comic figures.
