Unusual landscape orientation; the position of maker's stamps show that the paper has been turned upside down. See also P.14410-R-30. Collage of cut-paper and hand-coloured flowers at lower left and centre with brown moss and chromolithographed goldfish inside a bowl, a gelatine film over as glass. Embossed: DOBBS (outer border) and DOBBS KIDD & CO / LONDON (inner border). Title handwritten at upper left and right in blue ink: "A Tribute of sincere Affection". Motto written on cut-paper swag at upper centre: "Friendship / Fidelity". Inscriptions in black ink (presumably by the sender) written underneath flower collages to lower left and right (right-hand collage is missing): "Bound together / by mutual / sympathy / as fish / to the / water; so have / we been / evidently / created for / each other." Watermark: J WHATMAN/ TURKEY MILL / 1846. The inside pages are blank. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 32.
