object type: A small rectangle of burgundy transparent cellulose, lithographed in gold ink and mounted vertically inside an embossed, white lace-paper sleeve with a central oval window. Areas of the embossed design of roses, stems and leaves are handcoloured. A title and verse is lithographed in gold ink: 'TO / MY COUSIN / My Cousin is a gentle soul, / So good, so kind, so free, / That, search the world from pole / to pole, / There can no better be. / Then, gentle Cousin, love me still / As thou wert wont to do; / And while I live I ever will / Return that love to you'. One of a group of lithographed cellulose valentines mounted or found loose in album P.14417-R, some of which are contained in lace-paper sleeves and/or envelopes. Although a maker's name cannot be found, P.14417-R-13 was probably made by J.T. Wood, like most of the other cellulose valentines contained in this album.
