value: Found Stowting, Kent, 1990. The coin was exchanged for five coins from the Blunt collection that are duplicates of ones in the Museum's general collection:  1) a Viking imitation of Alfred, 'Orsnaforda' type, moneyer Bernwald (same dies as MEC 1:1381);  2) St Edmund Memorial type, rev. +CVNDETIE (same dies as MEC 1:1393);  3) St Edmund Memorial type, rev. +ERSALT MON (same dies as MEC 1:1396-7);  4) Vikings of York, 'Cnut', 'Quentovic' (same dies as MEC 1:447);  5) Anlaf Guthfrithsson, Raven type (same obverse die as MEC 1:1451).   The exchange had been approved by the Museums and Galleries Commission for the Dept. of National Heritage, the National Heritage Memorial Fund, and the National Arts Collections Fund.  A variation dated July 1992 to the Schedule to the Direction under Section 9 of the National Heritage Act 1980 gave authority for exchange to be made.
