  <description>
    <value>Lithograph (uncoloured) on white wove paper. Inlaid within a frame of buff wove paper (approx. height 360mm x width 515mm). An interior scene with four prostrate male figures holding a paper scroll bearing the text: 'Magistrates / &amp; Landowners / of DERBY beg / leave most / humbly to / approach / your Grace &amp; / implore you to / condesend [sic] to take into ...'. The figure of Wellington (Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, 1769-1852; Prime Minister from 1828 to 1830) stands to the left with printed speech bubble: 'Poor Gentlemen! they must / labour under some mental delusion / I believe they take me for the / _Great Mogul_'. The artist's initials in monogram at lower left: 'HB'. Publisher and title printed below the border at the centre: 'London Pubd by McLEAN. / Scene From the IInd act of / A NEW FARCE called A "COUNTY MEETING".'. Handwritten in graphite at upper right: '50'. See 16042,_Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires_, Vol. XI, 1828-1832, M.D. George, published 1954, p. 266. A number '[50]' printed in square brackets in the right-hand margin on p. 266 relates to the handwritten number at upper right, both referencing the sequence of John Doyle's Political Sketches series. George states that the publication date of 'Feb 1830' is known from a handwritten inscription in pen and ink.</value>
