Talleyrand, as Guy Fawkes and wearing seventeenth-century clothes with a tricolour cockade in his hat, directs a lantern whose beam is labelled, 'HOLLAND' at two officers approaching from the left, representing Russia and Austria. Palmerston, another cloaked conspirator, sneaks off to the right. Signed with monogram at lower left: 'HB'. Title printed below the border: 'THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER / or / _THE GUN POWDER PLOT_.'. The publisher's details printed below left: 'Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, Nov. 9th 1832.'. A small, circular blind stamp at lower left: 'THOs. MCLEAN'.
