Edward John Littleton stands at a table moving around three thimbles. His accomplices are Lord John Russell (who pretends to offer a bet) and Mr. Spring Rice, on the one side and Lord Althorp on the other, with Lord Grey behind. John Bull is the large gentleman standing before the table. Edward Stanley stands to his left. Daniel O'Connell can be seen preventing an Irishman from being taken in by the 'rig' at the far left. Signed with artist's monogram at lower left: 'HB'. Title printed below the border: 'THE THIMBLE RIG.'. Below the title: "A Scene from the Derby"'. The publisher's details printed below the border to the left: 'Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, July 10th, 1834.'. A small, circular blind stamp at lower left: 'THOs. MCLEAN'.
