DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: A tinted lithograph (in two tones of yellow) on a large sheet of heavy, white wove paper within a narrow black border: a bay mare, stands in profile, facing right, its head turned slightly towards the viewer and its right hind leg slightly raised. As the only mare in the set (the other five are all stallions), this horse is shown with a young foal beside her to the right. The horse and foal stand in a desert landscapr with a river in the background and several boats at centre right and buildings with palm trees at centre left. A tint-block of pale yellow is applied generally with a darker tone of yellow overlaid across the horses bodies and across the background details in the lower third of the image. The title, presumably the name of the horse, followed by a description of its colouration, is given in German and French in the margin below the image at lower centre: 'DSCHERAN BASSAN. / Goldbraun. \ Bai Doré. [golden bay]'. The artist's details below the image at lower left: 'Nach d. Leben gez. v. Rud. Kuntz.'. The printmaker's details below the image at lower right: 'Lithogr.v.L.Ekeman Alleson'. The publisher's stamp, a small lozenge-shaped blind stamp above the title at lower centre: 'EBNER'. Watermark: 'H. OSER. IN. BASEL'.
