The print relates to an oil portrait of Love at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge that is attributed to the circle of Cornelius Johnson (1593-1661). A presumed later copy of this portrait, attributed to after Daniel Mytens (c.1590-1647), is in the collection of Clare College, Cambridge.
