  <description>
    <value>Etching on laid paper. Portrait of Richard Love, three-quarter-length, turned slightly to the left, left hand pressed against his breast with fingers spread, wearing a skull-cap and an academic gown. The plinth and base of a column with drapery behind and a distant landscape and open sky seen to the left. Etched unevenly in open letters in the lower margin: 'R[ichard].LOVE. D[ean].D[ivinity]. DEAN OF ELY. / MASTER OF C[orpus].C[hristi].C[ollege].C[ambridge].'. Etched below, as handwritten: 'To the revd J. Barnardiston D.D the present Master, this Etching / is, with Gratitude and Esteem, inscribed by his obedient servant / M. Tyson'. In graphite below the platemark at lower right: '-6 Private plate 2.6'. The print relates to an oil portrait of Love at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge that is attributed to the circle of Cornelius Johnson (1593-1661). A presumed later copy of this portrait, attributed to after Daniel Mytens (c.1590-1647), is in the collection of Clare College, Cambridge.</value>
