  <description>
    <value>Stipple and etching on paper. An elderly male figure seen full-length in profile facing left, bending forwards slightly. He clasps his hands together in front of him and wears a wide-brimmed straw hat with front brim upturned, a long coat with brass buttons and shoes with buckles. There is a hole in his coat at the right elbow. He carries a large bundle under his right arm. Within a rectangular border. Engraved on the plate wtihin the image border at lower left: 'JKB. sculp.t'. Engraved on the plate in the lower margin: 'Invicti Imperatoris Brashyeri vera effigies. / Drawn from the Life and Pub.d May 31st 1791, by J. Marshall Jun.r Cambridge: for the benefit of the distressed Original.'. Graphite inscription at lower centre: 'Blind Porter at Cambridge'. Emperor Braysher was a Cambridge porter who was entirely blind. Written in graphite, later unknown hand, on the artist's board below: 'J. Marshall jun.r del.' (this misleading, as J. Marshall apparently only the publisher and this recorded as the case in O'Donoghue); 'Emperor Brashyer / Blind Porter at Cambridge'; 'J.K.B. sc.'.</value>
