IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 225682 accession number: C.13-2018 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Tuesday 20 November 2018 updated: Monday 18 December 2023 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Coil built and raku fired ceramic vessel (porcelain/T-material), near spherical shape but with a high shoulder, a not-quite-circular opening at the top, Biscuit fired to 1050oc, raku fired to c.875-900oc and surface ground after each firing to leave a smooth creamy-white surface with the slight irregularities and tiny pockmarks of natural stone. Designs created by applying layers of slip removed after raku firing to reveal three sets of concentric soft, light ellipses which seem to be almost shadows and in, rather than on, the surface – suggesting the patterns found in eroded pebbles and stones on a beach. The markings shade to deep charcoal on the underside, which is rounded. object type: Coiled clay, raku-fired, crazed white with pale smoke-grey elliptical decoration. title: bowl NOTES ----- type: history note value: Given by Keith and Patricia Gentle, Cambridge, 2018 LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Applied Arts creditline: Given by Keith and Patricia Gentle, Cambridge, 2018 STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/225682 TECHNIQUES ---------- Coiled clay, raku-fired, crazed white with pale smoke-grey elliptical decoration. hand building CATEGORIES ------ category: Studio Ceramics DATING ------ creation date: 1997 - 1997 creation date earliest: 1997 creation date latest: 1997 culture: 21st Century, Early# culture: Elizabeth II CREATORS -------- maker: Roberts, David (b.1947) DIMENSIONS ---------- dimension: Diameter units: cm value: 41 dimension: Height units: cm value: 31 CITATIONS -------- Painting with Smoke.
