In the upper part of the sampler the inscription "O God my inmost sou convert/And deeply on my thoughtful heart/Eternal things impress/Give me to feel their solemn weight/???????/ And wake to righteousness," Charles Wesley (1707-1788). Seven large, densley embroidered flower and bird detached motifs and a multitude of varied small motifs surround the inscriptions The upper part of the sampler contains lower and upper case alphabets, numerals 1-9 above a band of linked octagons which contain a flower basket/deer/ tree & lions in central octagon. The remainder of the sampler surrounded by densely worked large detached motifs of flower baskets, bouquet, birds and smaller crowns and stylised floral motifs (similar to Berlin Woolwork patterns).The who;le is enclosed by a strawberry border. Matthew Greenwood was a wool stapler/dealer, several similar in the parish register. The church contains a monument to Thomas Clabburn , weaving factory owner.
