Inscribed verse at the top: "Catch then, Ocatch the transient hour,/Improve each moment as it flies./Life's a short summer, man a flower,/He dies alas! how soon he dies. These are the last four lines of An Ode to Winter by Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) A wide floral repeat band separates the inscription from a centred floral bouquet surrounded by traditional detached motifs. At the bottom a leaf and bud border frames the inscription "Maria Heyborne/ December 1830 Aged 10 Years" Maria was born to John & Susannah Heyborne 15 Aug. 1820, baptised 26 Nov. 1820, St. Giles Cripplegate in the City of London.
