The smaller right hand portion of the sampler is inscribed with various improving aphorisms. There are randomly placed small motifs, predominantly cruciform, scattered amongst the inscriptions. Centre bottom the inscription is "With best love/ wishing you a/ happy birthday/ remember me" and, in a small frame "E.F. C.F", and the date 1871, implyimg that the sampler was a birthday gift between sisters or mother and daughter..
