      <note>
        <value>Emmanuel Cooper OBE (1938-2012) trained with Gwyn Hanssen Piggott and Bryan Newman before setting up his own pottery, with shop front, in London. A consummate technician, he is known for his glazes which are sometimes delicate but often vibrantly coloured. With Eileen Lewenstein, Cooper founded the Ceramic Review, in 1970; his writing includes biographies of Bernard Leach and Lucie Rie.</value>
