IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 227225 accession number: CM.219-1909 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Friday 14 June 2019 updated: Friday 10 December 2021 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: A probable copy of a medal that was modelled in Rome in 1560 and cast Milan. Leoni sent Michaelangelo two silver and two bronze copies. He cleaned and boxed one specially, writing ‘keep it and look after it for love of me’. Apparently Michelangelo was pleased with the medal and in gratitude he gave him a wax model of Hercules and Antaeus, now lost. The medal was widely distributed, and the portrait frequently copied. The inscription, however, is wrong: Michelangelo was then 85 not 88. title: Italy LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Coins and Medals STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/227225 CATEGORIES ------ category: medal DATING ------ creation date: 1561 - 1561 creation date earliest: 1561 creation date latest: 1561 CREATORS -------- maker: Leone Leoni (c.1509-1590) DIMENSIONS ---------- dimension: Diameter units: mm value: 57 dimension: Weight units: g value: 30.17 IMAGES surrogate: large format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/638/322/large_CM_219_1909_obv_2007_adn21_mas.jpg height: 1365 pixels width: 1024 pixels surrogate: mid format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/638/322/mid_CM_219_1909_obv_2007_adn21_mas.jpg height: 667 pixels width: 500 pixels surrogate: original format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/638/322/CM_219_1909_obv_2007_adn21_mas.jpg height: 5344 pixels width: 4008 pixels surrogate: preview format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/638/322/preview_CM_219_1909_obv_2007_adn21_mas.jpg height: 333 pixels width: 250 pixels
