IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 23898 accession number: MAR.O.48 & A-1912 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Wednesday 4 January 2017 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Box, lacquer, the base with white metal liner. Rectangular box of four tiers with a cover (A). The design is divided diagonally into two parts, the ground being half gold and half black, the former decorated with gold flowers and scrolling foliage detailed in black in low-relief, and the latter with flowers and scrolling foliage in gold and silver with details in black. The gilding on the foliage is worn in parts revealing traces of red. The lowest tier has two recessed rectangular grooves with raised white metal fillings (probably silver alloyed with copper). The remains of textiles in the grooves suggest it once had ribbon ties. The interior and base are decorated with dense nashiji (shimmering spangles) and the lowest tier is lined with white metal (probably silver alloyed with copper) with a nashiji rim. title: box LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Applied Arts collection: C.
