Lady Elizabeth Howard (1780-1825) married John Henry Manners, 5th Duke of Rutland (1778-1857) in 1799. Full-length standing in an interior at Belvoir Castle, a curtain behind and window to the right through which four figures can be seen standing on a balcony on the exterior of the castle, the lakes seen in the distance. The Duchess wears her dark hair in short ringlets and is dressed in a gown of pale silk with leg-of-mutton sleeves and a cloak falling off the shoulders. She looks towards the viewer, her head slightly inclined towards the left.
