R.A. 1775; Mannings, 1694; Harewood House, Leeds). Jane Fleming was the step-daughter of Edwin Lascelles, Lord Harewood. She married Charles Stanhope, Viscount Petersham, later 3rd Earl of Harrington on May 23, 1779. The portrait was commissioned from Reynolds by her mother, Lady Jane Fleming, second wife of Edwin Lascelles whom she married in 1770. The portrayal has been identified as a depiction of Aurora, goddess of the dawn.
