  <description>
    <value>After the portrait by Peter Edward Str&#xF6;hling (exh. R.A., 1807, no.552). Thomas Cochrane, 10th Earl of Dundonald (1775-1860), known as Lord Cochrane, was an admiral in the British navy. Full-length, standing on board the deck of a ship, facing front but head in three-quarter profile to the left, left foot raised on a gun carriage, right hand tucked into his jacket, left on the hilt of his sabre. Wearing naval uniform, his Admiral's cocked hat set upon the ship's deck in the left foreground. Smoke fills the background, a ship's mast seen through it to the left and rigging to the right.</value>
