The wing markings are in gold and black hiramakie (low-relief sprinkled design) and kirikane (metal foil cut to various shapes and individually set into a lacquer ground, often as a mosaic) on a nashiji ground. The sides of the box are decorated with gold feathery foliage of hare's foot fern on a nashiji ground.
