The design of paths and paddy fields continues round the sides of the box and onto the lower section. The mikayeshi (inside of the lid) and interior of the box are decorated with gold chidori (plovers) in flight on a nashiji (shimmering spangles) ground. The circular, flat, recessed base is in nashiji.
