<value>This was formerly described as a finger bowl, but the lips on either side indicate that it was intended to be a glass-rinser or glass-cooler. However, these like the bowls without lips, maya lso have been used as finger bowls. They appeared around the middle of the 18th century and were still in use in the mid 19th century. A large number survive from the 1780s to the 1820s, including sets of six or more. They were also made in blue glass, and less frequently in red.</value>
