The red rose on the enamel is a stylised version of the symbol of the National Union Women\u2019s Suffrage Societies (NUWSS). Established in 1897, the NUWSS comprised of many suffrage societies around Britain which combined to form the largest organisation campaigning for women\u2019s suffrage in Britain.
