<note>
<value>This paperweight is thought to be one of a number of objects made by Mills to sell and raise funds for the suffrage campaign. The red rose on the enamel is a stylised version of the symbol of the National Union Women’s Suffrage Societies (NUWSS). Established in 1897, the NUWSS comprised of many suffrage societies around Britain which combined to form the largest organisation campaigning for women’s suffrage in Britain. In 1914, it had over 50,000 members.</value>
