  <description>
    <value>A sequence of exercises in species counterpoint in 3 and 4 voices, forming pages [87]-[92] of the collection of studies by Franz Jakob Freysta&#x308;dtler when studying with Mozart. The arabic numbers define the cantus firmus (melody), the Roman numbers identify the version. There are six cantus firmus melodies ("N. 1"-"N. 6"), each with three exercises in 3 parts, and four exercises in 4 parts. In each version has the cantus firmus melody is in a different voice (1st, 2nd, 3rd (4th)). There are additional 3-part exercises for "N. 3"; the first two 4-part exercises for "N.1" and the last two for "N. 4" are missing, as are the 4-part exercises for "N. 5" &amp; "N. 6".
The content suggests that Leaf 2 should precede Leaf 1, and that the sequence has the title "Contrapunctum floridum".
Manuscript probably in the hand of Franz Jacob Freysta&#x308;dtler, not holograph Mozart.
Paper: 12 staves (190x255mm); watermark: three crescent moons ; countermark "VA" below crown. (Tyson WM Nr. 95).
Former shelf mark: Music Box I (19)
Received unbound. Bound in quarter green morocco with marbled paper sides and vellum tips [by S. Cockerell.]
