The rectangular comb has closely spaced teeth on one side and more widely spaced teeth on the other. The area between is divided into three rows of pierced patterns. The centre row has a central roundel flanked by two movable panels which slide outwards and reveal two small circular mirrors on either side of the central roundel, and piercing which echos the pattern on the sliding panels. On the reverse the central motif is flanked by four unpierced panels each containing three raised gothic letters. The shallow rectangular case with hinged cover is covered with brown leather and has a stamped and gilded wreath of foliage in the centre of the cover, and a metal hook fastening at the front. Inside it has a shallow rectangular depressions in the lower part and the cover to accommodate the comb, both lined with cream silk, and bordered by pink paper frames.
