DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: An imaginary scene of the 1658 sale of Rembrandt's moveable property. Interior scene set around a table laden with cloth and framed pictures, many leaning up against it; other objects are visible, including a helmet and goblet and a large lantern on the floor at centre right. Buyers sitting and standing around the table; one bends to inspect some fabric. An auctioneer seated in an elevated position at centre left has just started bidding on a framed picture presented for consideration by a porter. The elderly figure sitting in the left foreground, wearing a cloth cap and catching our eye is closely comparable with the costume and expression of Rembrandt's self-portrait of 1658 (Frick Collection).
