Baily was the son of a ship’s carver and began his career as a modeller in wax. He spent seven years in John Flaxman’s studio, and was his favourite and most devoted pupil. Baily came to fame in 1818 with his statue, 'Eve at the Fountain', but his most famous work is the portrait of Lord Nelson atop Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square.referenceterm-106851adlib-term-106851e155f998-1e0b-3f2a-851c-24f44d05dd5919th Century, Mid#referenceterm-37963adlib-term-37963929f6c25-5677-3624-90d4-f6d882da98ecwhite marblereferencemedia-15795adlib-media-15795194b8a58-1ba8-3b76-937f-0b48271a8fbfjpegaa/aa9/M_1_1851.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels53916162430254341imagejpegaa/aa9/mid_M_1_1851.jpg1heightpixels686widthpixels50016162430254341imagejpegaa/aa9/M_1_1851.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels53916162430254341imagejpegaa/aa9/preview_M_1_1851.jpg1heightpixels343widthpixels25016162430254341image0media
