The underside has a wide flat rim, and is closed by a sunken panel which has a very tiny ventilation hole near the rim. The shallow cylindrical base has at the back a square pedestal with a mouldings at the top and a short distance above the bottom. Sir Robert stands to the viewer's right of the pedestal, looking slightly to his left. His right leg is forward, his left hand is on his hip, and he holds a rolled up scroll in his right hand.
