The rest of the underside is flat and unglazed. The group is supported on an oval low mound base decorated with applied flowers and leaves. The putti are naked but each has a long drape passing over one shoulder. One putto sits on the right with his left leg raised in the air and his right leg bent with the foot on the ground. His arms are raised towards the other putto and he looks towards the viewer. The other putto strides over the other's raised leg with his left leg, and bends back slightly as he grasps the struggling dolphin in his arms. The dolphin is scaly and has in its gaping mouth a square aperture to take a candle branch.C.3028-19281accession numberC.3028-192841559priref41559old object number3993urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/41559https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/41559referenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumBequeathed by Dr J.W.L. For the group's derivation, see pp. 45-57, on p. 52. He considered that it 'possibly derives from an Italian fountain group', and noted versions made at Meissen and Vincennes (pl. 24c) and Chelsea (pl. 24b). He also illustrated a small bronze (pl. 24a) but did not attribute it or state its ownership. The Bow model is closest to the Vincennes model.pp. 45-57referencepublication-200000884adlib-publication-200000884b5f0f75e-0764-3eff-a5f9-9f47f74df09fFrench Influences at ChelseaRef.
