  <description>
    <value>Soft-paste porcelain containing bone-ash, figure of an African woman holding a Basket, press-moulded, hand-modelled, and painted over lead-glaze in blue, green, yellow, pink, dark pink, orange, and black enamels. The underside is partly glazed, and has a central ventilation hole; the underside of the feet are unglazed. The square base has a scrolled edge and four scroll and rock feet, angled so that one foot is at centre front. She stands on her right foot with her left relaxed behind her. Her head is turned to her right, and she holds up her right hand to her headdress. Over her left arm she has a basket of eggs (?). On each side of her right foot there is an applied flower and leaves. Her face, neck and hands are glossy black. She wears a tall yellow headdress which falls down to her shoulders at the back; a white long sleeved dress, the skirt of which is scattered with orange and blue flowers and leaves, and a long pink coat with short sleeves, a blue collar and lining, black buttons as far as the waist, and an orange belt. Her shoes are black with blue bows. Her basket is pale yellow. One flower on the base is blue and one orange. The scrolls are picked out in dark pink and the rocky areas of the two front feet are green and yellow.</value>
