The approximately round base has a tree stump at the back. The shepherd stands on his right leg leaning back against the stump, with his left leg extended to his left so that the foot is half way over the edge of the base. He has his bagpipes under his left arm and holds the pipe with both hands. His head is turned to his right. He has brown hair and ruddy cheeks. He wears a black hat, white shirt, blue jacket with yellow lining, white breeches decorated with puce flowers, and black shoes with puce bows. The bagpipes are yellow. On the ground to his right there is a recumbent pale greyish-brown and white lamb wearing a collar with a short yellow stick at the front.
