DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: Soft-paste porcelain containing bone ash, figure of a Fiddler, press-moulded, and painted over lead-glaze in blue, green, pink, red, purple, brown, and black enamels, and gilt. The underside of the roughly circular base is unglazed except for the depression surrounding the ventilation hole. The base has a tree stump at the back with a rectangular stone in front of it. In the back of the stump there is a rectangular hole to take an attachment. The fiddler stands on his left leg with his right foot on the stone. He holds the fiddle in his left hand and the bow (missing) in the hand of his extended right arm. He wears a broad-brimmed black hat turned up at the front, a white shirt and neck cloth, a floral coat with a pink lining and gold buttons, pink three-quarter length breeches with black embroidered borders, and black buckled shoes. At the back of the stump there is a 'v' in greyish-purple. The top of the base is decorated with two painted dark pink flowers and foliage, and an applied blue flower and three green leaves.
