IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 42516 accession number: C.29-1992 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Monday 18 December 2023 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Soft-paste porcelain figure of a Piedmontese Bagpiper, press-moulded, with hand-modelled details, and lead-glaze. The closed underside is flat and was wiped free of glaze except for a deep oval depression cut into the middle and a few spots elsewhere. The oval base has low, slightly wavy sides and is decorated round the edge with four applied roses, stems, and leaves, and with a spray of leaves near the middle. It rises up at the back into a low tree trunk which supports the figure. The bagpiper has his left leg against the tree stump and strides forward onto his right. He wears a broad-brimmed hat with a cockade or feather attached to the proper right of the hatband, a shirt, a sleeveless jerkin with numerous buttons, a long cloak which falls down to the ground over the tree stump, slightly wrinkly hose, and square-toed shoes with bows. object type: Soft-paste porcelain figure of a Piedmontese Bagpiper, press-moulded, with hand-modelled details, and glazed. title: figure NOTES ----- type: history note value: Dr and Mrs Hugh Statham; Dr Statham died 1967; Mrs Statham died 1970; their daughter, Miss Beryl Statham by whom lent anonymously in 1988 (Statham Loan 11-1988).
