The extremely smooth surface of the glaze, showing few defects under ultra-violet light, suggested doubts about its authenticity, but thermoluminescence analysis by the Oxford Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art (report dated 8 March 1994, sample 581m29) estimated that the sample was last fired between 350 and 650 years ago (1344-1644). Hence the good quality of the glaze may indicate that it was made later than some of the other jugs in the collection.referenceterm-107695adlib-term-1076959675e97a-a0f5-3db2-9f8b-5255e41704ed14th Centuryreferenceterm-10603adlib-term-1060309088083-a78d-3d70-9f4f-343b5c3283d7Medievalreferenceterm-110716adlib-term-1107167fa143b1-2071-36b6-81a5-02ab08b0f7d9literalItalyItalycountryliteralUmbriaUmbriaregionprobably OrvietoOrvietoreferenceterm-42861adlib-term-428615b368285-f1a8-3dcf-a5b2-637fd3c3956cearthenwareHeightcm27.0Heightcm27.5referencemedia-17793adlib-media-17793f1420830-c6c1-3909-b67e-1979476c7b5ajpegaa/aa8/C_63_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57017029267196701imagejpegaa/aa8/mid_C_63_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels649widthpixels50017029267196701imagejpegaa/aa8/C_63_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57017029267196701imagejpegaa/aa8/preview_C_63_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels325widthpixels25017029267196701image0media
