object type: Buff earthenware, tin-glazed on the interior and exterior; the rim and base unglazed. The glaze is pinkish in some areas, especially near the base, where its application is uneven. Painted in thin, very runny dark blue with lightly drawn manganese outlines.
Approximately shape 42. Ovoid with flat base, short cylindrical neck with everted flat-topped rim, and two strap handles with a longtitudinal ridge on each side of them.
Both sides are decorated with a hare rampant, surrounded by sprays of oak leaves with dots and dashes in the background. On each side of the handles are three vertical manganese lines with blue spots at intervals and a row of vertical undulations. Round the lower part of the body there are two horizontal manganese bands; on the neck, alternating blue spots and manganese crosses between pairs of horizontal manganese bands. On and below the handles there are wavy lines and splodges, and, beneath on each side, a manganese asterisk.
