object type: striding figure of Sakhmet, wearing sun disk; the figure is on a low plinth, which is mounted on a large bronze base decorated round the sides with a repeated motif; eyes and collar inlaid. Sekhmet was the consort of Ptah and mother of Nefertum. She was seen to be savage, breathing fire onto the enemies of Egypt, but she was also seen as a healer. Many granite statues of the goddess were found at the temple of Mut (a female of the Theban triad) at Karnak.
