object type: Hadra hydria, inscribed with name of Peisias the owner. Peisas would have been Greek. Many of these vases were imported from Crete to Alexandria, where they were used for storing cremations. The Egyptians soon began to produce their own versions of the water jars, which trake their name from the Hadra cemetery in Eastern Alexandria.
