IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 71076 accession number: C.99-2019 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Thursday 17 February 2022 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: fritware, mould made, incised and painted in blue under a transparent turquoise glaze. Shape: standing horse with mounted rider, wearing a shield on the back, and a small quadruped perched on the rump; all mounted on a rectangular plinth. The figurine is hollow, with a spout formed from the rider’s pointed hat. Decoration: all features are moulded, blue pigment runs through the glaze. On the horse, features comprise tail, eyes and armour on the head and neck; reins connect the horse’s mouth with the saddle pommel. Details of the saddlecloth are incised under the glaze but are only visible on the left flank. Facial features and folds of a pointed hat and cloak are clearly visible on the rider, as are the bosses on his shield. The quadruped sitting on the rump is poorly defined, with facial feature barely visible, although a collar on the neck is apparent. Glaze pools on the plinth under the horse’s feet and covers the remaining area thinly. title: figurine NOTES ----- type: history note value: Found at Gurgan LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Applied Arts collection: Ades family collection creditline: Accepted by HM Government under the Cultural Gifts Scheme from the Ades Family and allocated to the Fitzwilliam, 2019 STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/71076 PEOPLE ------------------- horseman TECHNIQUES ---------- fritware, mould made, incised and painted in blue under a transparent turquoise glaze fritware TECHNIQUES ---------- painting underglaze TECHNIQUES ---------- glazing (coating) CATEGORIES ------ category: fritware (stonepaste) DATING ------ creation date: 1150 - 1220 creation date earliest: 1150 creation date latest: 1220 culture: 12th Century, Late-13th Century, Early# CREATORS -------- maker: Unknown DIMENSIONS ---------- dimension: Height units: cm value: 29 dimension: Length units: cm value: 21.7 dimension: Weight units: g value: 756 dimension: Width units: cm value: 9 EXHIBITIONS HISTORY ------------------- title: Exposition d'Art Musulman title: Islamic Pottery 800-1400 AD title: The Gurgan Finds CITATIONS -------- Exposition d'Art Musulman Islamic Pottery 800-1400 AD.
