On the reverse there is an unglazed area around the outer edge. Circular, with a flat centre and a raised edge, sloping outwards on the outside. The flat area is painted with a rural scene. A young a woman wearing early 19th century dress is depicted walking along a path leading to a distant church and village. She is evidently coming home from market, as she is carrying a basket with a lamb in it. To the right of her there is an irregular plank fence and two trees, and to her left, two smaller trees on a bank. At top centre there is a suspension holeThe inside edge of the frame is decorated in brown with a bead and reel border, and the exterior is dark brown overall.
